1. Increase in Cybersecurity Incidents Across Ireland
Ireland’s National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) has reported a marked rise in cybersecurity threats, with 721 confirmed incidents last year. This resulted in 309 investigations, highlighting the increasing need for robust cybersecurity measures across all sectors.

2. Government Data Breaches
Irish government departments reported 6,885 data breaches over the past decade, with 862 from the Department of Justice. Issues included lost devices, unauthorised disclosures, and human error. Efforts are underway to improve data protection and staff training.
3. Cabot Financial Cyberattack
A significant cyberattack on Cabot Financial resulted in the theft of 394,000 data files, including sensitive personal information. This breach highlights the ongoing risks businesses face and the importance of comprehensive security strategies.

4. New EU Cybersecurity Regulations in Force
The EU Cyber Resilience Act, which came into effect on 10th December 2024, mandates stricter cybersecurity requirements for all products with digital components. Irish businesses have a three-year deadline to achieve compliance.
